As part of our continued drive to have a lighter impact on the environment, we've switched to eco friendly cleaning products from the fab Wikaniko.

No more nasty chemicals around the place to poison us and the environment; instead we use chemical free products from the likes of Bio D.

No more plastic bags that take hundreds of years to degrade into smaller bits of plastic; instead it's bags that fully degrade within 18 months.

Eco Top Tips - Reuse & Recycle CDs

Whether you're using them to store digital photos, they came free with your Sunday paper or magazine subscription, or you're a music or movie buff, the humble CD or DVD seems to be everywhere these days. Despite the promises on Tomorrow's World that they would be indestructible, they clearly aren't. Add to that our throw away society, and the numbers of the little plastic discs going to landfill soon mount up (it's estimated 2500 tonnes of discs end up in landfill each year!).

Sustainability and green issues are now very much mainstream, with governments, businesses and individuals all involved. ‘Sustainable Tourism’ is making an impact on many of the UK’s popular summer destinations.

We usually think of sustainable tourism as involving nature-based travel that benefits conservation and communities abroad, but as the recession has begun to bite, tourism at home is becoming more popular than ever before and as one of the main economic drivers in the UK.

Companies and individuals are becoming increasingly aware of their impact on the environment. It's amazing how much water we get through in the so-called developed world. From cooking cleaning and washing, the average usage in the UK is around 150 litres per person per day!

Here's some simple and effective steps we can all take to reduce our use of this precious resource.

A year ago my partner and I bought 15 hectares of land just north of Quito, the capital of Ecuador, and set out on an adventure in search of an alternative lifestyle to the one we had always experienced in the city. Our vision was to grow (organically) as much of our own food as possible, use only renewable energy sources, reuse all our “waste” products as inputs back into the farm, and offer the farm as a healing community for anyone who wants to live and work with us.

This can be achieved by living within the Earth’s environmental limits, while also creating a just and fair society and attaining a strong, stable economy.

Here in Wales Sustainable Development has been made a constitutional duty for the National Assembly of Wales. They have to consider sustainability in all their functions, one of which is Education.
