Changing Name Servers (DNS)
For your website to be available to the world through the Lightbeing Creations servers, you will need to modify the name servers (DNS) for the domain.
Our name servers are:
- ns1.lightbeingcreations.co.uk
- ns2.lightbeingcreations.co.uk
- ns3.lightbeingcreations.co.uk
This will need to be done with the company that holds the registration of the domain name, known as the domain registrar.
Each registrar will have their own method for doing this, but here's a rough guide for you.
- Log in to the control panel of your domain registrar
- Go to the section that allows you to amend the name servers (DNS) - the actual section and steps involved depends upon the control panel the registrar provides
- Wait for the changes to propagate
If you do not have access to a control panel or are unsure of how to proceed, you will need to contact their support team.
Once you have made the changes, it usually takes 12-24 hrs for those changes to propagate round the internet and to be picked up, but can take up to 72 hours for every server to update.
The period of time is something that we have no control over; it depends on how quickly various ISP's update their DNS caches.
During the propagation period, it's more than likely that people will view your site on your old host at times and at other times, the version that is hosted on Lightbeing Creations. If you have forums etc. it's wise to close them on your old host after you update DNS until the propagation period is complete.
It can be advisable to carry out the changes in the evening so the changes take place over night when it is less likely to be viewed (or whatever time fits the usage of your particular site.
