SSH / Telnet Support
We do not offer Telnet or SSH access in our shared hosting environment due to security procedures in place, including Department of Homeland Airport Information Security compliance and SAS 70 Type II auditing compliance (for storing highly sensitive and confidential government and healthcare data).
We do support FTP TLS/SSL connections.
SSH FTP or SFTP as it is commonly called is a more secure way of connecting to a FTP account using a shell account (via a SSH session/server), and is more secure than regular FTP. SSH and SFTP encrypt data travelling over the Internet as opposed to telnet and FTP which transfer information (including passwords) in plain text. By using TLS/SSL instead of SFTP, the whole communication of the FTP channel can be encrypted, thus making FTP much more secure and is another option of encrpyting the FTP protocol without needed SFTP support or an SFTP client.
If you get a certificate warning message once logged into FTP using TLS/SSL, you can click the button to accept, always allow or something to that effect, that your FTP software might prompt you with. This allows the software to connect using our SSL certificate.
Please refer to your FTP software documentation for help on setting up a FTP connection over TLS/SSL.
